my tretinoin sidekicks

There are 3 anti-ageing holy grail ingredients in skincare: Peptides, Vitamin C, and the mother of all the gold standards: tretinoin (with all its sister and cousin derivatives from Vitamin A).
It is also largely known as a go-to for acne treatment.

Many people try out retinol or retinoid products, and most are formulated in low percentages, and/or with buffers and other ingredients that soothe the harshest side-effects.
Yet, when jumping on to stronger retinols and topical tretinoin (better known by its commercial name, Retin-A), the side effects can be harsh.
There’s a whole method to this madness of trying to slow down the signs of ageing, and I’ll share what I’ve learnt with you.
This video goes deep into the products that I found are helping me to keep my skin soothed and as balanced as possible.

Also on this post, I’ll keep a little list of the things I have learnt so far (and I reserve the right to come back to this post to add or replace any information I can gather/correct.
I also encourage you to check out Caroline Hirons‘ blog, since she’s preparing a massive post (and maybe video) on this subject. She is a skincare encyclopaedia.

best in skin/hair care 2018

So many amazing products on the market, these were the ones I trusted my almost 40 acne-prone combination skin during the year. Of course I experimented around and there are some others out of this list that I truly rate, but I had to cut somewhere or this video would be 10 hours long.

Happy new beginnings, everyone!

in-flight skincare (and makeup)

spending several hours in an airport and then on an airplane sucks the life out of your skin. if you’re facing jet lag or if you’ve had and intense few days prior to flying, that takes it to a whole other level.

as much as doing your skincare before going into the airport is super important, I find that trying to maintain the hydration levels during the flight is super important.

these are the steps I’ve been taking on my flights, and if yours are longer, just repeat them every few hours and slather on some overnight mask like the one from Laneige on top.

also, I never do my makeup when I’m flying, but if you’re in a pinch and need to be all done up by the time you step out of the plane, I’ve added a simple makeup routine to inspire you.

plus, if in your liquids bag you just add your cleanser(s) and some vitamin C, you’re basically all prepped up for your skincare while away ;)

the product shots were absolutely inspired by gelcream travel, and the original Gelcream account is just a sight for sore eyes.

the autumn skincare edit

Autumn is here, with its sudden weather changes (oh, having to carry a coat all day, sweating profusely, because you know you’ll desperately need it at the end of the day), and our skin takes a toll.

today I’m focusing on products that you can amp up during this time (despite some being year-round favourites), because darker days come in favour of more intense resurfacing skincare (you still have to use SPF, no cheating) and because your skin is going to need your help to boost the hydration levels under harsh air conditioning and brittle cold wind.

travelling — toiletries in your carry-on

if you’re like me and you don’t like to leave the house without your precious skincare and makeup, but also feel ridiculous by checking in your bag for a 3-day trip just because of the liquids-security issue, this video may just come in handy.

grab a cup of your favourite beverage, because this is going to be a long one…
